THIS WEEKEND

POPE FRANCIS’ APPEAL FOR THE UKRAINE

Pope Francis has appealed for peace in Ukraine and highlighted the tragedy of “all  those who thirst for reconciliation and peace … I am thinking of the ordeal of those who suffer the consequences of the violence in Ukraine: of those who continue to live in lands that are turned upside-down by hostilities that have caused thousands of deaths, and of those – over a million – who have been forced to leave due to  the grave situation that persists”. Pope Francis has also announced a special charity collection to support the Ukraine inviting all faithful to join in favour of this initiative. On Sunday, 24th April there will be a special collection in all Catholic Churches in Europe.

AMORIS LAETITIA – THE JOY OF LOVE

Amoris Laetitia, ‘The Joy of Love’, is the 2016 post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation “on Love in the Family” by Pope Francis. It brings together the results of the two Synods on the family convoked by Pope Francis in 2014 and 2015. There is no change to the Church’s Teaching but the Pope does encourage us to consider how we extend Pastoral care and support to those who are unable to follow the Church’s teaching on Marriage and the family. For more information please consult the website of the Bishops of England and Wales: www.cbcew.org.uk
